Hiking Adventures in San Diego

My husband and I have a little love affair with California. It’s always on our mind for trip ideas and we’ve even considered moving there once. Life and a baby changed that particular dream but we’re ok with it. We like a good reason to hop on a plane and escape for a bit.

Our favorite California destination right now is San Diego. The weather is perfect most of the year, the city is clean and vibrant, and there’s always something to do outdoors. Including hiking which is pretty much all we did when we last visited.

Torrey Pines Hiking Trails

The Torrey Pines State Reserve is north of the city center and has about 6 different trails throughout (+ a few short ones). The best part is that some of the trails lead to the beach, which makes for a relaxing cool down spot. Also, the trails are pretty easy, even on the hottest days—just bring a light pack and a bottle of water. And even a towel to enjoy a little beach time when you’re done!

La Jolla Trail

La Jolla is still technically part of the Torrey Pines Reserve, but this little trail is worth checking out. Even if you don’t want to walk the whole trail, the views are amazing. Plus, it starts at the Torrey Pines Gliderport so you can hang out and watch the hang gliders take off. Or grab something to eat at the restaurant.

And the best way to end a day of hiking in San Diego—grabbing a drink and a bite in the Gaslamp Quarter!
