Aloha to One! Ellis’ First Birthday Party
/And she’s officially ONE! 😭 Last month we celebrated Ellis’ FIRST birthday Luau style back home in Virginia Beach with our close family and friends. I can’t believe how fast this first year went. I’m sure it had a lot to do with the sleep deprivation and not knowing what day it was most of the time, but it seriously flew by! My baby is now an energetic toddler, keeping me on my toes day in and day out.
But before I spiral into an emotional, blubbering mess, I’ll share some fun bits from her birthday party…
We decided to do a Hawaiian themed birthday party because we had our babymoon there. Plus, we wanted to treat this birthday as a big party for us too (we survived the first year!). So, a good luau, pool, and tropical cocktails sounded perfect to us!
By the way, Ellis totally did not understand the “cake smash” thing. We basically had to smash it for her and she only wanted the icing (which, same, girlfriend!).
Food: Malbon Bros BBQ catering, Virginia Beach
Cake/cupcakes: Incredible Edibles Bakery, Virginia Beach
Decor:
Happy Birthday cake topper (cupcake toppers I made myself)
Tropical Leaves - Michaels & Hobby Lobby (both bought when on sale!)
Tropical banner (no longer sold, but here’s another option)
Aloha surfboard (Hobby Lobby)
My dress (no longer sold)
Ellis’ dress, the “I Love Hawaii” pineapple, and our leis were found in Hawaii
My advice to other parents planning their kid’s first birthday—remember, this party is just as much for you as it is for them, so it doesn’t have to be too kiddie. Besides, they won’t remember anyways! Next year’s birthday will be much more low-key.
