Scoops Ahoy and Painting Too

Since we’re in the process of renting out our home, we haven’t gotten into the Halloween spirit home decor-wise (if you’ve never had to “show” your home, you basically have to live in a museum-like state until someone signs a lease). Also, we’ll be packing soon so I didn’t want to add more to our packing list.

However, we did want to celebrate the season in some way since Ellis is at that age where she can (somewhat) participate in the activities. Instead of carving pumpkins, we decided to paint them! And since this will technically be Ellis’ FIRST art project, I picked up a paper mache pumpkin from Target so I can keep it forever! I also grabbed this non-toxic paint set.

The whole activity lasted about 10 minutes. I’m learning that Ellis is very much like me and doesn’t like to be dirty, because she spent most of her time trying to get the paint off of her hands. The pumpkin still came out cute, but I was hoping she’d enjoy it a little bit more. Maybe next year she’ll be more into craft time. Either way, I’m saving the pumpkin!

We also took some family photos of our costumes! I’m sure many people have guessed by now, but we went as Scoops Ahoy employees from “Stranger Things” and Ellis was our cute little ice cream cone! Here’s my DIY on her costume—it’s super easy to make, especially if you’re scrambling to get costumes together last minute.

I hope you and your family have a great Halloween! This year will be our first year letting Ellis trick-or-treat so we’re so stoked! (Mainly because we get to share her candy with her!)
