Woodland Toddler Room Inspiration

I recently shared in one of my IGTV episodes that we will be moving Ellis into her “official” new room later this year. When we first moved to our new home, we put her in the only empty room (the house came furnished) to make it easier to keep to her routine. Now, that we’ve settled in and moved any unwanted furniture out, it’s clear that the room across the hall is much better suited for her. For one, it’s bigger. I truly think the oldest child deserves the biggest bedroom. They’re forever our “guinea pig” child so they should get some perks! And second, it has a great layout to meet my vision. Her current room will eventually be a nursery for our second baby whenever that happens. Which I also have ideas for, but I’ll share those details on a later date!

Anyways… we’re going to stick with the woodland theme for Ellis’ toddler (or “big girl”) room. I don’t see the point in changing it—we still love it and it’ll save us money. However, I still plan to make some improvements. When we first planned our nursery, we went heavy on the gender neutral since we put it together before we even knew Ellis was a girl. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about not putting a gender on things (Ellis wears “boy clothes” all the time), but for this room, I want to add a bit more feminine touches that will soften the design a bit.

The Room Currently…

*We will be changing out the carpet to a cream/tan color later this spring! Trim and doors will be painted white and the full-sized bed and baby gear will be moved to Ellis’ current room.

The wall colors will be painted white (specifically my favorite white!) with an accent wall design that will be pink—I’ll be matching the pink to a gorgeous rug I got from HomeGoods (I also found it on Amazon - ours is 5x7). I’m SUPER excited to start on the accent wall. I got the idea from Within the Grove’s blog post about her own toddler’s room makeover. How gorgeous is this wall?

I’ve found a few tutorials on how to create something similar, but I need Richard’s help to get it done. So, it’ll be a true test of marriage when we do find the time to do it! And we’ll probably need a babysitter to actually finish.

The furniture will be black. Like I said before, the house came furnished and we were left a decent-sized black dresser. It’s really low, which I love for a growing kid and I don’t see the point in getting rid of a piece of furniture if it fits my style and will be used well. Plus, a lot of the woodland decor we have has black accents, so it’ll be a nice contrast with the bright walls. The only piece of furniture that won’t be black is our forest green rocking chair. Seriously, this is my favorite chair ever and I’m currently trying to convince my husband to buy another one when we have a second kid for their nursery. It’s on my list of top baby items for a reason!

I’m really excited to tackle this room! I have about 4 months to finish it because we want to start transitioning Ellis after her second birthday (crossing fingers that she adjusts well 🤞🏼).
