Sunshine and Rainbows Playroom Inspiration

I recently announced that WE’RE MOVING this month! And, of course, in ridiculous mom fashion, the only room I plan to work on first is Ellis’ playroom. I know, but I have good reasons to tackle this one first—it’s the room we will probably spend most of our time in and I want it organized ASAP before her toddler ways get the best of me and destroy it before it’s even put together.
I’ve shared a home tour on Instagram, but we plan to make the first floor office her playroom for the next few years. I originally wanted to set it up in the basement, but since we plan to have more kids, I want it to be close to the kitchen and living room for easier access (and I can keep my eyes on them better). Plus, neither my husband nor I have ever lived in a home with a basement, so we have NO clue how we want to use that space.
So, the layout. When you walk into the house, the kitchen is ahead of you and the dining room is to the left. Past the dinning room is the playroom. I like that it’s on the main floor, but still tucked away to keep kid messes contained (well as much as you can contain them!).
I plan to use the couches that we’re currently using in our living room. They’re older and have already gotten some wear and tear thanks to our cats and Ellis, and they are modular so we can arrange them in a bunch of different ways.
I also plan to use our cube storage shelf we got from Target (and I might add another to the room if it fits). I haven’t decided if the tapestry will go in the playroom or Ellis’ new room yet. We’ll see.
So, other than gray and brown from those pieces, my options are pretty much endless here! Overall, I really just want to find that perfect balance between organized and fun, as well as tasteful since this room will turn back into an office one day. And after some Pinterest and Instagram inspiration, I think I’m going to go for a….
☁️🌈☀️ Sunshine and Rainbows theme! ☀️🌈☁️
Because the world may not be all “sunshine and rainbows,” but it can be in this room, dammit! 😊
My Inspiration
My Mood Board
Paint color—I really want a warm cream color for the walls. Again, this room will go back to be an office, so I want the room to be easy to transition and always welcoming. Right now, I’m looking at Behr Coastal Beige or something similar.
Couches—West Elm no longer sells these as a full piece, but they do have a build-your-own version.
Rug. “Easy Like Sunday Morning” blog (pictured above) used this rug in their playroom and I love it so much, I might just get it!
Watercolor Alphabet. I use Creative Market a lot for my DIY print projects. I want to try to make my own decor using these letters—I just haven’t decided if I want to create one large print or separate flash cards of each letter that I can make a fun garland. If you have photoshop/illustrator, check out Creative Market.
Throw Pillows—how cute are these?!
DIY Rainbow Wall Art—tutorial here.
Book Shelves. These are actually from a clever Ikea Hack.
