Master Bedroom Mood Board

Well, I never thought the day would come, but… I’M FINALLY DESIGNING OUR MASTER BEDROOM!! Now, if you’re new here, this is a big deal because in the NINE years that my husband and I have lived together and the FIVE different apartments/homes that we’ve occupied, we’ve NEVER had a completed master bedroom. Nope. Not once. Between a hodgepodge of hand-me-down furniture, super low budgets, and constant moves, it just never became a priority.

However, over the years, we upgraded our bedroom furniture, invested in a nice mattress, and collected quality design pieces—now, we just need to put it all together to create a master bedroom sanctuary we FINALLY deserve!

The Room Currently…

What I like most about the room right now is that it’s a clean slate. The only work that previous owners did was upgrade the closet (I’ll share at a later date!) and install the plank flooring, which we will change in the future. It’s not bad flooring but it’s very obvious someone got a little too DIY- heavy and there are a lot of mistakes we’d like to fix. Again, it’s fine for now but if our budget ever allows it, I’d love to switch to white oak planks because it’ll match the design plan I have brewing for the master bathroom.

My goal for this room is for it to be very simple. I usually like to design around a “theme” of some sort when I’m planning a room, but for this, I wanted to use pieces that we already have and not stick to a strict color scheme. If you know me, I LOVE shopping for new bedding. Comforters, duvets, sheet sets, all of it! I’ve reeled it in significantly over the years, but now that we have decent storage space for once, I want the option to rotate out different bedding styles/colors when the mood strikes. The benefit of this (other than refreshing your room multiple times a year and increasing personal joy) is that it prolongs the life of each bedding set rather than using one to the point that you HAVE to switch it out. For example, our last bedding set is now being used in our updated guest room because it inevitably shrunk after so many washes.
