House Paint Inspo
/I told you earlier that one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to paint the damn house! We’re finally jumping in and doing it! Well, once we pick a pro to do it—we also have some cracks that need to be filled… problem with new builds FYI. And, we need to nail down some colors.
The Main Interior + Living Room
Our home is a tri-level townhouse with an open floor plan, which means that the color we choose for the first floor, has to be the same for the second and third. Which also means we have to pick a color that works for each floor… ugh. And since I’m the most indecisive person when it comes to these things, you can understand how we’re in year 3 of this house and it still hasn’t been done.
I usually lean towards bright grays and whites, but since most of our furniture is gray, that’s out. So, I’m stuck on light creams/off-whites. Do you know how many shades of cream there are? More than 50, Mr. Grey! And it doesn’t help that our carpet is a light tan so it’ll be a balancing act to make sure the colors don’t blend in too much.
Current Inspiration:
The Loft
For the most part, the loft will be the same color as the main interior, but there is room to do an accent wall if we choose. We have been toying around with the idea installing a wainscoting design and painting it a bold color—similar to what Studio McGee did to this formal sitting room:
We’ll see though. I’m a little too OCD to do it myself and my husband would prefer not to hire someone so it might be a flat wall for awhile. We’re not sure what color we want to do yet since we’re getting ready to change that room up a little bit (sharing those details soon!).
Master Bedroom
I’ve been avoiding our master for awhile now. Mainly because it’s the biggest (and tallest) room in the house and it’s a bit overwhelming. (Plus, it’s pretty much been a heaping mess ever since Ellis was born but whatever…) But I think I’m heading in the right direction with it.
We’ve already started an industrial modern theme in there with our furniture—with a mix of reclaimed wood, black metal features, and natural colors. But the bed blends in with the bland walls and I want our bedroom to pop a little more and be our sanctuary (especially when we move Ellis’ crib out of it… you know one day… when my heart can handle it… who am I kidding, she’ll probably be 2 when that happens 🙈).
At first, I was really inspired by Studio DIY’s guest room makeover with the bold green and white:
But then I realized with our tall ceilings the color wouldn’t work well with that room. But I LOVE the color and I plan to use it at some point in my life! Maybe on our pantry door or in our next home… I don’t know.
So, I’ve been looking into more muted greens. Something that won’t blend into the furniture, but not overwhelm the room.
Current inspiration:
Master Bathroom
Our bathroom already has a lot of natural colors, from the bath and shower tile to the granite on the sinks, so I don’t want to go overboard with my paint choices. So, honestly, I’m leaning towards a plain ol’ white. It’s clean, simple, and bright—all things you want for a bathroom!
Current inspiration (and ironically they’re the same paint color):
